Costume Closet Is Closing đź’Ś A Love Letter to Our Community

It’s with a heavy (and very full) heart that I share this.
After four and a half years, Costume Closet — our underground dollhouse — is coming to rest.
Costume Closet began as a little spark — a curious experiment without a roadmap. I never could have imagined the life it would take on, or how deeply it would weave itself into so many beautiful humans and moments. What started as a wild idea became something far bigger than I could have planned, and in building it, I learned everything by living it.
Over 4.5 years, we hosted 3,000+ styling experiences and adorned more than 5,000 radiant humans. We’ve played dress-up with adults who forgot they were allowed to play. We’ve witnessed people see themselves — sometimes for the very first time. Somewhere along the way, this little community-sharing experiment became a portal.
We built a space that encouraged confidence.
That gave permission to be extra.
To be strange.
To be shameless.
To be seen.
Our racks held thousands of treasures, entrusted to us by 130 consigners who shared not just garments… but stories, memories, and fragments of themselves. Those pieces lived many lives — dancing at festivals, walking down aisles, and illuminating the different facets of the people who wore them.
Costume Closet became less about adornment and more about connection — breaking the ice, dissolving the space between strangers, making magic between people who may have never met.
To me, it has been a living extension of my heart… blurring the line between work and soul, and becoming one of my greatest teachers. And for so many of you, it became a mirror. A portal into your own becoming.
Which makes this next part the hardest…
This season of my life is shifting, and I’ve had to look honestly at what it takes to sustain something this intricate and heart-led. Without a roadmap, I built it on instinct and devotion. But devotion alone doesn’t always create longevity.
Rather than stretch it thin, I’m choosing to honor this chapter with immense gratitude — closing this current iteration with integrity, and carrying forward everything it has taught me as I imagine what might grow from this natural turning point — rich soil for a future expression still taking shape.
To every client who stepped into our dollhouse… thank you.
To every consigner who trusted us with their collection… your faith meant everything.
To every stylist, volunteer fairy, and collaborator… you carried this magic alongside me.
To every Glitzer who walked out standing taller… you were the reason.
To preserve what we created together, we’ve made a communal digital scrapbook — a space for you to share your photos, videos, and stories. The look that made you feel unstoppable. The piece you fell in love with. The encounter your outfit unexpectedly sparked. The facet of yourself you finally gave permission to reveal. We would be so honored to include your voice.
Costume Closet may be coming to rest in its current form, but the spirit of transformation and sacred play lives on.
That part lives in me. And in you. And wherever we gather next.
With so much love,
Felicia Mariah, Owner
P.S. Rental sessions are now closed. I’ll be sharing updates soon about the Closet’s final month — including limited private buy-only appointments and our final liquidation sale. If you’ve been meaning to visit one last time, stay tuned.
P.S.S. This is a tender season for us. There is a great deal of hands-on work and responsibility ahead as we thoughtfully bring this chapter to a close. If you feel called to support — whether through helping in person, offering resources, financial contributions, or simply staying connected to be part of what may emerge next — please don’t hesitate to reach out. Any contribution means more than you know.
